Published & Visibility Icon Conventions

Meeting workflow progress is communicated with colored status pips in the Status column. The meetings list no longer includes a public-visibility column—use the topbar Switch Context control for township, team, and role. This reference documents the eye icon pair for other surfaces, alternative pairs for comparison, and action-only icons that should not be confused with visibility.

Alternative pairs

Other pairs for side-by-side review. The bi-eye / bi-eye-slash pair above remains the default.

Alternative Globe / lock bi-globe / bi-lock-fill

Strong “public portal” vs internal-only framing.

Use when: transparency and web publishing are the primary mental model.
Avoid when: you need a minimal, single-icon warning column.

Alternative Shield check / shield lock bi-shield-check / bi-shield-lock

Reads as permissions and access control rather than public portal.

Use when: role-based access is the main story.
Avoid when: the audience is clerks checking public posting status.

Alternative Broadcast / eye-slash bi-broadcast / bi-eye-slash

Emphasizes “live” or announced-to-public rather than viewable.

Use when: publish means broadcast or announcement.
Avoid when: most meetings are quietly posted to a portal.

Wrong column Pencil square bi-pencil-square

Draft edits belong in the Unpublished Edits text column, not a visibility indicator.

Use when: indicating editable draft content in an edits column.
Avoid when: communicating public visibility.

Action-only icons

These icons denote interactions or toolbar context. Do not reuse them as public-visibility indicators in the meetings list.

More menu

bi-three-dots

Always opens the row Actions menu. Never visibility or status.

New window / share

bi-box-arrow-up-right

External navigation or copy share link only — not in-row open.

Publish action

bi-file-earmark-arrow-up-fill

Button on agenda or minutes toolbars — not a row state indicator.

View PDF / preview

bi-file-earmark

Required for preview and view-PDF actions. Do not use bi-eye for preview.

Township / org context

bi-houses-fill

Topbar Switch Context control for township, team, and role.

Publish (legacy)

bi-flag Retired

Older mockups used flag for publish. Retired — flag reads as milestone/status and clashes with status pips.

Four separate visual systems

A single meeting row can show partial workflow pips, document quick links, and unpublished-edits text at the same time. Public visibility is not shown in the list table; township, team, and role context live in the topbar.

1. Workflow status

Status column — four pips in bronze, silver, gold, platinum (left to right). Pending pips are grey outlines; complete pips use bi-check-circle-fill in the tier color.

Example: Meeting Run (2 of 4 steps). See status section in implementation notes.

2. Public visibility (not in list)

Reserved eye pair for detail surfaces and future indicators—not a meetings-list column

Visible to the public Not visible to the public

bi-eye when published; bi-eye-slash when not public. Use the topbar bi-houses-fill control to switch township, team, and role context.

3. Unpublished edits

Unpublished Edits column — text, not an icon

Unpublished Edits

Internal draft changes. Separate from whether the public can see posted content.

4. Document quick links

Agenda and Minutes columns — icon-only links when a file is ready; blank when not

bi-card-checklist for published agenda; bi-card-heading for saved minutes. Separate from status pips and public visibility.

Mini table mockup

Three rows showing status pips and unpublished-edits text. The meetings list does not include a public-visibility column.

Name Status Unpublished Edits
Spring Budget Hearing
Budget Work Session Unpublished Edits
February Board Meeting Unpublished Edits

Row 1: early workflow with no draft edits. Rows 2–3: mid-workflow with unpublished-edits text.
